As I noticed many people (inlcuding myself ) done it the wrong way in the past, I would like to share a straight step by step guide found online!
Imagine a a Greek letter P (Π). Step 1-4 and opposite 4 to 1. Connect and Disconnect!
CAR 1 (OK)
____________
2 (+) 3 (-)
| |
| |
CAR 2 (EMPTY Battery)
STEPS:
1) The cars not to touch each other.
2) Turn off the ignitions in both cars.
3) Clamp one end of the positive cable (red clamps), to the positive terminal of the dead battery, which is marked with a plus sign. Be sure the clamp bites the post securely.
4) Clamp the other red end of the positive cable to the positive terminal of the OK battery.
5) Clamp the end of the negative cable, (black clamps), to the negative post of the OK battery, marked with a minus or negative sign.
6) Clamp the other end of the negative cable to a good electrical ground source as far from the dead battery as is possible. Do not clamp to the negative post. For example, the engine manifold or the alternator mounting bracket. Make sure no moving parts will touch it once the engine starts.
7) Start the OK Car.
8) Start the Empty Car. If the engine won’t turn over, switch off the ignition of both cars. Check the connections. Try again.
9) Once the Empty Car starts and idles smoothly, disconnect the cables in reverse order (a. negative ground from disabled car, negative of OK Car, positive of OK Car, positive of Empty Car).
Make sure not to let the clamps touch one another. Don’t let them come into contact with moving parts or anything that could cause a spark.
For Bikes:
(Considering you have access to the battery or extra red cable for jump start!)
* Red kill switch and ignition switch (key) to the off positions on Dead/Empty Bike prior on!
a. Bike to Bike: follow steps as per above but for ground use the metal pedal.
b. Car to Bike: DO NOT TURN THE CAR ON!!! You might just need to turn ignition to accessory just to give power to the car (have head lights or extra lghts off - and I repead DO NOT turn CAR IGNITION ON - Car Engine should NOT run)
Connect with normal steps and disconnect reverse order!
Ready to go! :D
